YLI is open to all Catholic women.
We were founded in San Francisco in 1887 by three young women who were inspired to help a friend who was ill and without financial means.

Now we have thousands of members who call each other "sisters" because we are there for each other and pray for each other. 
We are joined in a common bond with Our Blessed Mother as our inspiration in the mission of praying and supporting each other, our families, our parishes and our communities; and we have fun, too.

YLI has members in California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington; but we are always open to expanding to other states.
